California Will Move To Strip Murray's License

The California Medical Board will start its own process to strip Dr. Conrad Murray of his medical license, state Attorney General Jerry Brown said Tuesday.

The board had asked the courts to suspend Murray's license as a condition of his bond on a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson. But a judge this week delayed a decision on that request until June.

Brown wrote in a court filing last month that Murray's treatment of Jackson "demonstrated a serious lack of judgment that should prohibit him from practicing medicine."

He argued making the suspension a condition of his bond would "accomplish public protection quickly, efficiently and economically."

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, who was chosen just Monday to preside over Murray's trial, decided he would not be ready to consider the medical board's request until June 14.

At a news conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, Brown said the medical board will go ahead with its own investigation and proceedings to take Murray's license. Brown's department provides lawyers to represent the medical board.

Murray was charged with a single count of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death, which the coroner ruled was the result of acute propofol intoxication. Propofol is an anesthetic.

Murray has no patients in California, but he has resumed his medical practices in Houston, Texas, and Las Vegas, Nevada, defense lawyer Ed Chernoff said. Suspending his California license would trigger a domino effect, causing Texas and Nevada officials to take action, he said.

Taking away his income as a doctor would be a "death nail" in Murray's defense because he then could not afford to pay for his lawyers or expert witnesses, a spokeswoman for the defense team said.

Michael Jackson's parents, Joe and Katherine, brothers Jermaine and Randy, and sister Janet sat just a few feet away from Murray during Monday's hearing. About a dozen members of the public, mostly Michael Jackson fans, sat behind them.

Jackson fans hissed and groaned loudly as Murray walked by them in the court hallway before the hearing, but the doctor remained stone-faced. Deputies who separated them warned the fans that they would be escorted out if there were other outbursts.

I firmly believe Geraldine Hughes is a deadset legend when it comes to exposing those who have the despicable hide and temerity to annihilate Michael throughout his lifetime for many years, and I agree, she's doing a phenomenal job thus far, and don't ever stop!

Let's hope his licence is PERMANENTLY revoked, but who knows with this inept Californian justice system because, quite frankly, they wouldn't know their bums from a bar of soap Twisted Evil madness

Apparently he's going DOWN. The news as of this evening is that his lic. may be revoked in Texas soon. Like really soon. So watch the Google newswire. I think this came from Geraldine Hughes on one of the ustream shows tonight.

*fingers crossed for this*

Murray Tries To Keep Medical License

Lawyers for Conrad Murray say that the doctor must be allowed to continue practicing medicine in order to pay for his defense on manslaughter charges in Michael Jackson's death. This comes in court papers filed on Thursday.

Responding to a bid by the California attorney general to suspend Dr. Murray's medical license pending trial, attorneys Ed Chernoff and Joseph Low said the effect would be devastating to the doctor who already faces a slew of money problems.

"He is, without fear of overstatement, hanging on by a thread," the attorneys wrote. "His ability to pay for his own defense depends almost entirely on his ability to continue to treat patients."

Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death from the anesthetic propofol and other drugs, is scheduled for a court appearance Monday at which a judge may be assigned to his case and a preliminary hearing date selected.

The attorney general's office said a representative of the Medical Board of California will appear to challenge Murray's license. He has already been orderd not to use anesthetics.

Murray's lawyers say there is no need to revoke his California license since he does not practice in the state and argued that a suspension would have a "domino effect" leading to his inability to practice at his clinics in Nevada and Texas.

"If Dr. Murray is unable to practice medicine in Texas, and especially Nevada, he will likely be faced with the inability to adequately defend himself of the charges facing him in the Superior Court of California," his lawyers wrote. "The case with which he is charged will require intensive attorney work and fees. In light of the fact that much of his defense will be scientifically based and involves the death of an internationally famous decedent, expenses for his defense will be considerable."

Murray's attorneys also argued that the state is unfairly trying to curtail Murray's right to a full hearing by the medical board. They say a suspension would affect his ability to pay child support and to pay his employees and would negatively impact the patients he is treating currently in Nevada and Texas.

The attorney general's office argued that Murray exercised "poor professional judgment" in Jackson's treatment and "ultimately took the life of his patient." The motion to revoke his license stated,

"Defendant's behavior shows an utter disregard for the care and well-being of the persons entrusted to his care. His conduct is unprofessional and reckless. This is conduct from which the public should be protected."
